Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
I lead a small team responsible for developing and delivering a capability offer for policy makers in the Department for Education.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I have loved it. I have developed key skills and knowledge as a learning professional. I think more strategically and align my work with organisational priorities.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
Totally. From learning theory to designing and delivering learning programmes aligned to motivational theory and andragogy.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
Really well. The units were well structured and paced, linking both the HR and L&D modules. The learning journal and off-the-job hours log made me a reflective thinker.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
There was support when I needed it, though regular apprenticeship calls and drop-ins. There was also 1:1 support when I needed it :)
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
There could have been more support after my development coach went on sick leave just as I went on EPA, and there were mixed messages about the EPA project requirements.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
This was the conclusion from my learning journal that discusses the impact on my role: I can confidently say that this journey has been transformative, both professionally and personally. The apprenticeship has not only deepened my understanding of the L&D landscape but has also helped me to identify as a credible and confident L&D professional. Through structured reflection, practical application and continuous feedback, I have developed a robust understanding of emerging trends, such as digital learning, self-directed and social learning, and the importance of curated content alongside a scaffolded learning programme. I now appreciate how technology and innovation can enhance learning experiences and improve accessibility, especially in a fast-paced, policy-driven environment. There have been many ‘lightbulb’ moments but by the far the biggest was the effective transfer of learning, and the need to not only provide L&D opportunities but also create a learning culture and environment to support this. I’ve grown as a leader. I’ve built a high-performing team, fostered a culture of co-design and continuous improvement, and developed the confidence to influence senior stakeholders and navigate complex political landscapes. I’ve become a role model for learning, not just within my team but across the department and wider government. I am excited to continue embedding the learning from this apprenticeship into my work. I am particularly passionate about improving long-term learning transfer and impact and modernising the learning offer, and I look forward to shaping a more innovative, inclusive and effective learning culture within the department.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
There are lots of staff network which provide additional support and people to connect with. There are annual sports day. As I work mostly from my home and do not live in the locality of my office, I tend not to get involved in social activities.
