Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

I am a traffic and safety technician dealing with enquiries and highway issues relating to requests for new safety measures i.e. road signage, markings etc. These enquiries come in from the general public and local councillor's. We are also involved with the police investigation work into fatal traffic collisions, Dealing with requests for road closures and diversion routes on the network, and any other safety related matters.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

Although it was tough to balance due to work commitments, it was a very valuable learning experience with a lot of knowledge gained in different areas of construction. Overall the experience was a good one and i am glad i managed to complete it.
Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

Using apparatus for surveying was very helpful. Also helped to build confidence in mathematics. I have also improved in a wide-range of computer skills and communication skills

How well organised/structured is your programme?

Fairly good considering all was condensed into 2 years. Maths was done in the first year which was good to get out of the way

Employer allowed every opportunity to complete the works during work time and made sure college took priority.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

Ok, but lessons seemed to become less and less involved as the 2nd year progressed and tutors were not always available. Also class rooms would often change week on week and sometimes rooms were not available to us. Almost felt pointless at times as we would be left alone to complete our work
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

Through new skills learnt it has helped be become more proficient in my role and also how to organise work tasks and meet deadlines.

Why?
Very supportive and encouraging when it comes to additional learning and provides various opportunities to better yourself. Overall LCC is a very good environment to work in.

Be willing to go the extra mile and opportunities will arise from this for progression.
