Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

I am a Careers Development Officer working primarily with apprenticeships. My role involves promoting apprenticeship opportunities, supporting enrolment, reviewing regular progress updates, and escalating any issues or concerns when necessary. I also work across early careers, co-ordinating and supporting work experience, T Levels, and other placement opportunities. On a day-to-day basis, I work closely with learners, employers, and internal teams to ensure individuals receive the right support and guidance throughout their early careers journey.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I really enjoy the CMDA programme as it provides a great opportunity to learn and develop my skills across a wide range of areas, including communication, organisational strategy, finance, and ethical leadership. The programme is engaging and varied, which keeps it interesting and helps me apply what I’m learning directly to my role.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

Through CMDA, I have developed both new and existing skills. I have particularly strengthened my management and leadership skills, alongside gaining valuable experience in procurement, ethics, and project management. The programme has improved my confidence in managing projects, making informed decisions, and applying ethical principles in my role.

Very well structured, including regular in-person and online sessions, recorded videos, tutors available when needed and online resources available from the first day.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

My employer is incredibly supportive ensuring I get all the experiences needed to allow me to complete the apprenticeship.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

The training provider is always available to help me relate the content to my work and find ways of ensuring I get the most out of the qualification.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

I believe the qualification has completely transformed the way I perform my role for the better, I not only understand my organisation better but how my role links to overall priorities and I'm now more effective in my role.

Why?
I joined Lancashire County Council unsure of where my role and future career might lead. Since then, I have been able to develop my skills and discover an area of work that I genuinely enjoy and want to progress in. I feel well supported and valued in my role, and I can clearly see the range of opportunities available to build a long‑term career here.
