Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
Really diverse and offers an apprentice a range of different opportunities.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
3/5
I found the programme okay, I did not enjoy the team so much with support being inconsistent across the board. I did enjoy learning new skills.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
I have learnt a range of skills including comms, writing, presenting.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
There is inconsistency across the communications and there were difficulties reaching people at the apprenticeship. The programme was incredibly over complicated at times.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
3/5
The support received was acceptable, but could have been better. This is a due to a lack of experience supporting apprentices in this specific team at the department.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
3/5
Dependent on the manager that I had, at time there was a lot of support at times there was no support.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
3/5
I do not think the learning elements of this programme particularly helped with the on job work mainly because of its focus on PR rather than comms.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
2/5
There are but its poorly manager and insular in the way that it impacts teams.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Department for Education to a friend?
Yes
Why?
I would because its a job in the civil service which does provide candidates with a lot of access to a range of people which is great for development.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Department for Education?
Tips would be to expect a bureaucratic system that is so busy and doesn't always have the capacity to support apprentices. Comms specifically is poorly managed and there will be difficulties for people that do not tightly fit within the box of comms/who is not great at comms.
