Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
Not every day is the same, for the 1st year you are mainly in college. During the holidays you are at plant unless booked off as holiday. While at plant there's different placements that you may get, where you work in different areas and learn new things.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
3/5
While in plant you get to have a great feel of how work life will be. you get to learn different skills, from refurbing equipment, working with engines, soldering etc. during College time there is good and bad, there are some tutors that you may get on with and like their teaching methods and there are some you may not. There is some disorganisation and things that you need, aren't told to you. There has been time where some tutors don't know what they are doing and don't know how to teach.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
I have worked a little with maintenance but not like this. I have done some work on cars and some work with attractions like go karts. so, I have learnt to work with hand tools. However I have learnt to work with new machinery and equipment like mills, laiths, soldering etc. I have also learnt more like how gears in a laith work, materials and special tools.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
the organisation of the college itself is not the best. We sometimes don't have a room booked or find out late if its moved. the tutors themselves do have more organisation to how the lesson will go. When working in plant there isn't always the best organisation either as sometime you get buddied up with somebody that isn't in or get told late.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
2/5
We don't really see our managers they tend to be busy or rely on the college. We haven't had a 1 to 1 about our block reviews. They only really get involved if they need us or if we email them directly. For being in 1st year as we aren't on site we were under the impression that we would have more regular meeting with the manager so others could raise issues if there were any.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
3/5
We have more support at the college due to the tutors physically teaching us. In term of the apprentice manager of the college we don't really see him and have to also email him if we need something cause he's not in office when we are on break or he's in meetings.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
the more physical lessons, where we perform practical's really helps when on site. as we can put what we have practically done into use. Some things that are theory help as we get a better understanding like health and safety or BIT because we can use them in our area at plant.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
2/5
There's a gym, charity team and football team.
