Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
3/5
I am currently a first year apprentice so I am in college 5 days a week. During this time we study and learn different practical and theory skills that we will need when working in the factory. When we are in Hams Hall Plant we shadow more experienced apprentices in our role. This allows is to gain practical experience and be able to apply the skills we’ve learnt which further reinforces our knowledge.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
3/5
So far I am enjoying this apprenticeship especially when I get to complete hands on, practical work. When in college it can feel tedious at times especially when it’s theory.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
With this apprenticeship I feel as though I am constantly learning something new. For GCSE’s I studied engineering however this only touched on the surface of what I have learnt so far. I have developed my practical skills for example working on the lathe, mill and bench. Some new things I have learnt is hydraulics/pneumatics in fluid power and a lot of electrical skills.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
1/5
During the term time holidays when we work in the factory, it is disorganised at time with some important information only being told to us last minute. The disorganisation is especially prominent in college with some tutors not really knowing what to do and learning at the same pace as us. There is also a lot of information we don’t get told even months later then we’re supposed to.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
3/5
The company is quite supportive and is understanding in circumstances when needed. We have meetings every so often where we are able to be critical and say what we feel can be improved to make the most of our apprenticeship.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
2/5
We receive support in lesson time however lessons are regularly disorganised.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
The knowledge I learn in college time is all useful when I am in working in the factory
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
There are many extra curricular activities to get involved with at work. One that I particularly enjoy is the charity events.
