Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
I work in a people-focused role supporting talent and development activity across the organisation. On a day-to-day basis, this involves coordinating and supporting a range of initiatives, providing guidance and administration, contributing to project work, and working collaboratively with colleagues to support effective delivery of business-as-usual activity.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I enjoy my Coaching Professional apprenticeship to a great extent, as it has been engaging, well structured and relevant to my development. It has helped me build practical coaching skills, deepen my understanding of coaching models and apply learning confidently in real situations.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
Yes, I have developed both new and existing skills through the Coaching Professional apprenticeship. In particular, I have strengthened my coaching practice, including active listening, powerful questioning, goal setting and use of coaching models, as well as building confidence in reflective practice and professional conversations.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
The programme is well organised and clearly structured, with a good balance between taught content, independent learning and practical application. I have felt well supported throughout, with clear guidance, regular check-ins and access to resources that help me stay on track and make the most of the apprenticeship.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
I receive a good level of support from my employer, particularly in terms of encouragement and understanding of the value of the apprenticeship. However, at times competing priorities and workload pressures mean that finding dedicated time for learning activities can be challenging, which can limit the support available in practice.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
I receive a strong level of support from my training provider throughout the programme. They provide clear guidance, regular reviews, timely feedback and accessible resources, which helps me stay engaged, confident and on track when working towards my qualification.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
To a large extent, the qualification supports me to perform better by strengthening my coaching knowledge, skills and confidence. The learning is directly applicable, enabling me to take a more structured, reflective and professional approach to coaching conversations and development-focused interactions.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
There are limited extra-curricular activities available at work. Occasional social or professional networking opportunities are offered, but these are minimal and tend to be secondary to day-to-day work priorities.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend London Fire Brigade to a friend?
Yes
Why?
Yes, I would recommend London Fire Brigade to a friend. It offers meaningful work, strong learning and development opportunities such as apprenticeships, and a clear commitment to public service, although it can be fast‑paced with competing priorities at times.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to London Fire Brigade?
I would advise others to research the organisation thoroughly and be clear on why they want to work for London Fire Brigade and what they can bring to a public service role. It’s also important to be prepared for a fast‑paced environment, show flexibility, and be open to learning and development opportunities, particularly if applying for an apprenticeship.
