Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

From starting recently and I am now 6 months in, My role is a mixture between on site tendering for various projects that come into our business and office based work, My manager has trust in me and from day 1 has involved me in completing tenders successfully and winning projects also it’s a mix in the office too which is the balance I quite like such as recently I’ve been assisting the surveyor in invoicing and doing weekly valuations for our key client currently in our unit.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I enjoy this programme highly, I’ve got a clear structured path given to me by the development team in Ian Williams. My support network is amazing and we have every 6 months training events where I can mix with my cohort! Overall it’s amazing

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

From finishing sixth form, it was quite a new perspective going into a full time job and balancing my higher level qualification. I believe in terms of time management I have developed that extremely and know how to prioritise tasks efficiently, I have also learnt that skill and are currently developing my negotiation skills, my ability to look into things in detail and think of the bigger picture and how I can manage costs and identify risks!

Extremely organised, from day 1 I was given a checklist for the next 3-4 years and this has made it clear and easy for my development and I have weekly catch ups with my manager to further develop and see what I can do alongside

Of course, the structured programme the support network from your manager and various departments like business support, the development team and the one thing that stood out to me is that Ian Williams have their own academy alongside me doing my qualification!
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Ian Williams?
Be yourself and show curiosity and ambition to learn and always remember that it’s a learning process, you will get stuff wrong and that’s okay.
