Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

My role is to help set up activities, support children during play and learning, and assist with daily routines like meals and naps. I ensure children are safe and engaged, help promote positive behaviour, and work with staff to keep the nursery organised while gaining experience.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I really enjoy it as it allows me to learn new skills while working with children. The team is supportive, and each day is rewarding as I help children learn and develop. It’s a great experience that has helped me gain knowledge and improve my abilities to work with children.
Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I have improved my communication by working with children, staff, and parents, and gained confidence in supporting children’s learning through play. I have also developed strong teamwork skills and a better understanding of safeguarding and health and safety.
Structure and Support
How well organised/structured is your programme?

The training is very well structured, and makes it very easy to learn. There is clear guidance on what is expected, and the training supports the practical experience in the nursery. Regular feedback and support help me stay on track and continue improving my skills.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

My employer is very supportive of my learning journey. I am given plenty of opportunities to develop new skills and put my learning into practice. I’m given plenty of time and support to do my work, and feel confident to ask questions if I’m unsure of anything.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

My training provider gives me plenty of support. It is clear who I can go to with any questions, and there is always someone available to contact. The course is easy to follow and very engaging.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

Working towards my qualification, I’ve found my confidence and knowledge growing as I learn more. I’ve gained a deeper understanding of the way children learn and how I can support their development, as well as being able to better understand certain behaviours displayed by the children. The training has really helped me to better support and work with the children.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

There are plenty of different activities to get involved with, between helping with the children’s football, the open days, events or holidays, there’s always something fun and exciting going on.

My advice is to ask questions and be ready to learn from the team. Don’t be afraid to try new things and take on different tasks – it’s the best way to build your skills. Get to know your colleagues and the children, stay organised, and just enjoy the experience.
