Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.

My role involved assisting with various different client works in various sectors. Each day was a little different, from being able to attend client sites to working in the office. Daily tasks involved carrying out tests, checking information and attending team and client meetings.

Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?

Yes, I was able to talk to clients and complete real tasks for the audit.

This internship helped to develop my excel skills, communication skills and knowledge of accountancy and the finance sector. Additionally, it built up the beneficial skills needed to hold client meetings.

Support and Guidance

How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?

I received lots of support and guidance. The internship started with training which included a two-day trip to a conference centre to introduce the technical skills. Additionally, throughout the internship, everyone in the firm was happy to answer any questions and queries around the work and to teach you more about where the work you complete fits in.

Company Culture

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?

The company culture and atmosphere is very supportive. BDO as a firm is a strong people based firm and that really shows through when working there as people are keen to support each other.
