Overview of Role
Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
Assisting on any client or non chargeable work within the team mainly using standard MS office and other coding languages. Catching up with various members of the team who check in and make sure you have enough work or just for a quick catch up about life in general.
Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
I was given a reasonable amount of responsibility for my role and level within the team. Helping on client work, helping to draft proposals to get more clients and also construct some training for the team to use if they wish.

Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
Learnt a wide array of actuarial specific skills needed for an actuarial career. Developed further my coding and MS Office skills. Key and core competencies needed for all careers such as team working, communication and timekeeping. As well as the opportunity to present on a group work project.

How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
There is a constant stream of support throughout with people checking in everyday (if not in the office, if in the office they always check up!) and making sure not only that you have enough work to do, but also to help guide you through it if needed.

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
Company culture is as listed on their website and annual reports. It truly is a unifying culture where everyone wants you to develop and be your best self but also very friendly and welcoming and you are included in all team activites from day one.

I thoroughly enjoyed all aspects of my internship here at BDO as it has given me the opportunity to springboard my career into actuarial while also helping me develop all the skills needed for the profession.

What advice would you give to others applying to BDO
Make sure to do your research when applying so you can go into the interview and be as prepared as possible. Also, do research around the profession and studying etc. as this will show your passion about a career in the field.
