Business Assurance Internship Review

In my role, I was involved with the planning, execution, and completion of an audit of companies. This meant checking various items of a balance sheet to check for assertions such as existence, completeness, reliability etc. As well as this, I also completed a CSR project with my fellow interns which I presented to senior managers at the end of the internship. I was interviewed at the end of the internship, although this was more relaxed and reflective than a conventional interview.

Yes, I was given just as much responsibility as what a graduate trainee would receive. Not only was I testing items that any auditor would test, but I was also involved with clients and representing BDO to external parties. Therefore, I believe I was given a lot of responsibility on this internship. I also enjoyed having to present my CSR project to the senior managers who decided whether or not this could be a viable engagement.

Yes, I have developed my social skills, as well as many hard and soft professional skills. I am now more confident in approaching clients in a professional manner, as well as maintaining existing relationships with my colleagues. I have learnt new accounting skills which supplements the knowledge I have learnt in my degree by applying them in a practical manner. I have also learnt how a business functions which is a useful skill to have.

I received a lot of support and guidance. If I had a question, I felt very comfortable in asking them to anyone that worked at BDO and they were all happy to help and gave thorough responses to my queries. I also received support and guidance from my people manager and the early in careers team who were very good at giving support and guidance when I needed support and guidance.

A very good company culture and general atmosphere which is upheld by the company's values of supporting their people.

Overall, I have really enjoyed my internship and I have learnt a lot. I just wish it was longer!
