Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

5/5
My role is a senior support worker, and I handle a wide range of day-to-day responsibilities. This includes leading a team of support workers, planning and organising the day, and supervising the team to ensure everything runs smoothly. I also provide direct support to the people we support, complete finance and medication checks, and regularly review and update support plans, alongside many other responsibilities.

To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

5/5
I really valued the opportunity to learn new skills and apply them directly in my role. This programme has strengthened my confidence in my abilities and in myself overall. It’s also reignited my enthusiasm for learning and opened up clear pathways for career progression. As a result, I now feel confident stepping forward and pursuing more advanced roles.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

5/5
I learned a lot more about the processes around safeguarding and became more confident in myself and my abilities. In the past, I found it challenging to start conversations and speak in groups, but leading staff meetings, conducting appraisals, and completing an end-point assessment that lasted over an hour has really helped me grow in confidence and develop as a professional.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?

5/5
Overall, I found the programme to be well organised and supportive. I was given the time I needed to complete all my units to a high standard while still keeping up with my day-to-day responsibilities at work. The structure suited my way of working, as I was trusted to manage and complete my tasks independently, as long as they were finished within the given timeframe.

How much support do you receive from your employer?

5/5
I’m really grateful for the support I received throughout my course. My deputy manager made sure I had the time I needed to complete it, even during a challenging period in the home. I also had consistent support from my team, and both my manager and deputy worked closely with me in areas where I lacked experience. Their guidance made a significant difference and helped me develop my skills with confidence.

How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

5/5
I feel I received all the support and guidance I needed from my tutor. She worked with me throughout both my Level 3 and Level 4, offering valuable advice and helping me identify areas for improvement. She took the time to understand how I work best and adapted her approach, providing targeted support where I needed it most.
During a particularly difficult time, when I lost a family member and had to pause my Level 3, she was incredibly understanding and supportive. She gave me the space I needed without any pressure, while still encouraging me to continue when I felt ready. With her support, I went on to complete my Level 3 with a distinction, which I’m really proud of. Overall, I felt consistently supported whenever I needed it.

How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

5/5
I feel that the qualifications I have gained through my training provider have significantly supported me in improving the way I work and the quality of care I provide. They have strengthened my confidence in my role as a senior support worker and helped me develop a more effective and person-centred approach when supporting individuals.
The learning has also motivated me to continue progressing in my career and to keep developing my skills so I can make a positive difference to as many people as possible. I would strongly encourage others to invest in their own development, as I believe it directly improves both practice and outcomes for the people we support.

Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

5/5
There are a range of social and team-based activities within the workplace that both staff and the people we support can get involved in. For example, we hold a summer fair each year, as well as events such as game nights, discos, and bingo sessions. We also take part in charity events like the Macmillan Coffee Morning, and have organised sports days involving both staff and the people we support.
In addition, we have an annual Christmas meal for staff, which helps build team relationships. While there aren’t currently any formal professional networking events, there is a strong focus on inclusive, team-based activities that promote engagement and a positive working environment.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend VOYAGE Care to a friend?

Yes

Why?

I would confidently recommend a career at Voyage, as I genuinely feel the organisation makes a real difference in supporting individuals to live their lives to the fullest. The work we do is meaningful, and it’s rewarding to be part of a team that positively impacts people’s lives every day.
Like any organisation, there is always room for growth and improvement, but a strong, supportive team is what truly drives a company forward. I have been with Voyage for over 10 years, and during that time I have seen the value of the work we do. I look forward to continuing to grow with the company and seeing it develop even further in the future.

What tips or advice would you give to others applying to VOYAGE Care?

You get out of a job exactly what you put into it. If you don’t put in effort, you won’t see much return, but when you invest your time, energy and commitment, it leads to a genuinely rewarding career supporting individuals to live their lives to the fullest.
One of the best pieces of advice I would give is to take full advantage of every training opportunity and support available to you. Use it to continuously develop your skills, build your confidence, and grow as a professional, because that is what truly makes a difference in this role.
