Vacation Student Review

I worked closely with members of my Team and my assigned Buddy to complete tasks. I was able to get involved with several projects and attend many client calls where I was required to take notes. I got an insight into tax documentation and learnt a lot of new tax knowledge which will be invaluable in the future. I also attended internal team events which helped networking opportunities.

As I was working in a few different teams, I was able to find a lot about different roles within the Tax department. There were people at lots of different levels so I could ask them questions about their journey at the firm and how I myself could progress. My performance manager was particularly helpful at talking me through my options and what a potential return to KPMG in the future would look like.

My verbal communication skills developed throughout this programme as I was meeting a lot of new people which allowed me to network. I was able to demonstrate my curiosity by asking lots of questions, in particular to more senior members of the team. I have learnt the importance of research and analysis and being concise which was important in business development tasks and when making notes in client calls.

I really liked the company culture and everyone I met was so lovely. From my short time at KPMG I could tell how much of a people company they are and how they really want their employees to strive for improvement. I attended a few social events in my team which allowed further networking and I really valued the volunteering opportunities and the firm's diversity initiatives.

I thoroughly enjoyed my vacation programme and felt I was given a lot of opportunities to make the most out of my short time at the firm. The team I worked with was all so lovely, welcoming and approachable which made me feel more comfortable. The work I was given was very interesting and allowed me to develop skills which will be invaluable in the future - hopefully at KPMG.
