Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

I carry out measures and prices for brickwork and blockwork on construction projects in London. I manage the costs during the construction phase of these projects. I process invoices for materials and gear used in these projects.

To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I enjoy the measuring aspect of the job role, being able to price massive construction projects in London is truly incredible. I like running these projects also, creating different solutions to disputes and providing the correct information to different people on time is rewarding

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I have developed better communication skills with my colleagues. I have learnt how to produce a robust tender to any project no matter what is included. I have improved my problem solving skills in running projects to ensure that the cost of works in allocated properly.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?

I have regular sessions from my mentor for the academic side of my apprenticeship where we go through different topics involved in the role of a QS. I always have something to be getting on with whether it be a tender or a variation for an existing project.

How much support do you receive from your employer?

My employer is super supportive and I get help whenever I am struggling to understand a task.

How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

I have regular interactive meetings with my training provider to go through any topic related to the role of a QS.

How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

My qualification helps me better understand the role i have in construction projects. It helps me notice different clauses that may be included in a contract.

Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

There is often a chance to give advice to students in schools about apprenticeships and the company. There are also events and award ceremonies that allow you to meet new people.
