Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
In my role, I support the wider Digital & Technology organisation by helping teams work more effectively and stay aligned on their goals. This involves contributing to a mix of communication, coordination, tooling, and knowledge‑sharing activities that help keep projects moving smoothly. I work with different teams across Global Digital & Technology to improve the way information is organised, how tools are used, and how people access the resources they need. I also contribute to initiatives that make technology more accessible, ensuring colleagues have the right support to use digital tools confidently.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I really enjoy my programme especially the mix of learning, real project work, and the chance to get involved across different areas of GDT. It feels supportive, interesting, and full of opportunities to grow.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
I’ve developed a range of new skills through both my degree programme and my work at Unilever. At university, I’ve learned foundational coding skills, including how to write basic programs, understand logic, and use coding to solve problems. This has helped me build confidence in areas like Python, data structures, and understanding how software works at a technical level.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
My programme is really well‑organised and structured. There are clear support systems in place, regular check‑ins, and a good balance between work, university study, and development opportunities. The Tech Apprentice Group (TAG) structure especially makes everything feel coordinated — each pillar (L&D, Community & Well‑being, Onboarding, Placement Success) has a clear purpose, which helps keep the whole programme running smoothly and makes it easy to know where to go for support or information.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
I receive a lot of support from my employer. I have a dedicated career sponsor, regular check‑ins, and clear guidance whenever I need help. There are also multiple support channels through TAG and the wider GDT community, so I always feel well supported throughout my programme.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
3/5
I receive a good amount of support from my training provider, but sometimes I do feel confused by the university and what they expect from us. When things aren’t fully clear, it can take a bit of extra effort to understand what’s required. However, when I reach out for help, they are usually responsive and able to guide me.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
Right now, my qualification only helps partly, because I’m not currently in a very technical role. The degree is quite technical, so some parts don’t directly link to what I’m doing day‑to‑day. However, I do see how it will become much more useful when I rotate into a more tech‑focused role. The technical skills I’m learning at university like coding, data concepts, and understanding how systems work this will give me a strong foundation and make it easier to step into those future roles confidently.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
Yes there are plenty of extra‑curricular activities to get involved in. Through TAG, there are regular events, sessions, and activities that help apprentices connect, learn, and build a sense of community. Alongside that, there are also site‑based activities. For example, at the Port Sunlight office I take part in yoga sessions, which is a nice way to unwind and meet people outside my immediate team.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Unilever to a friend?
Yes
Why?
I would definitely recommend Unilever because they genuinely invest in young talent and really want apprentices to succeed. From day one, you feel supported, people are approachable, welcoming, and always happy to help. I’ve never met anyone who’s been impolite or unwilling to give their time. The culture is very open, and there’s a real sense that your growth matters. It’s a place where you’re encouraged, included, and given opportunities to learn and develop.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Unilever?
My biggest tip is to remember that the interviewers at Unilever genuinely want you to do well. They aren’t against you at all. They’re friendly, supportive, and really interested in getting to know you. Go into the interview confident, be yourself, and don’t feel like you’re being judged harshly. Unilever invests a lot in young talent, so they’re looking for potential, attitude, and enthusiasm, not perfection.
