Overview of Role
Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

I supporting the commercial management of construction projects from start to finish. On a daily basis, I deal with measuring works and preparing estimates, reviewing subcontractor quotes, helping with procurement, and monitoring costs to make sure jobs stay within budget. I also assist with valuations, payments and variations. I work with site teams, subcontractors, and suppliers to ensure the project progresses as planned and any issues are dealt with quickly.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I enjoy it a lot because it has allowed me to learn new skills and develop my knowledge while gaining practical experience in the workplace. It is great to have worked towards a qualification that will benefit my long-term career while gaining experience along the way.
Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I have improved my knowledge of cost control, valuations, procurement, and variations, while also becoming more confident with cost forecasting. I have also improved my communication skills and time management.

How well organised/structured is your programme?

Well organised overall. It provides a clear framework through KSB's for both the workplace and university, which helps me develop in my role.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

I receive a good level of support from my employer. They provide opportunities for me to develop in my role and I can ask for guidance when required. The level of support has helped me develop my knowledge, skills, and confidence throughout my 8 years with the company.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

I have regular meetings with the training provider representative as well as frequent email communication. These give me targets and feedback which allows me to structure my work accordingly.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

With a degree qualification, it opens further opportunities within the company and externally increasing responsibility given to me to allow me to progress.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

At Geo Houlton & Sons, we have a charity football team, and several charity events which I have been a part of throughout the year. These include working closely with our charity partner of the year, attending careers events to promote career pathways into the industry. As well as this, the company also host a minimum of 3 social events per year for team bonding.
