Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
On a day-to-day basis, I engage with new and existing customers and partners, helping Cisco teams provide technology solutions and support. This involves leading and assisting in sales campaigns, managing deals for customers, shadowing account managers, sales specialists, and more.
Across my 3 year course, you get to move and choose your rotation in the business. These rotations usually last from 6 to 12 months, allowing me to connect with the team and form long lasting relationships.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I definitely enjoy the programme due to the opportunities you can gain. I get to learn about the latest and greatest Cisco and industry technologies, and how they can benefit all types of organisations, from small businesses to some of the largest banks in the world. Also, I have gained a lot of exposure to different teams both inside and outside of sales. I have projects that are not directly related to sales, allowing me to get a feel for other job functions. Overall, I have no regrets about doing a degree apprenticeship at Cisco. It is also important to note that what you put into it is what you get out of it.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
100%. I have learned how to communicate effectively and improve my presentation skills. Through my rotation with sales teams, stakeholder management, and outbound campaigns, understanding of IT has definitely been the key skills I have gained.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
The apprenticeship is structured well. There is an induction period where you learn about the business and its processes and meet your apprentice manager. After the induction, you have a selection of rotations to go into, ranging from 6 to 12 months. During these rotations, you can enroll in stretch assignments to work with other areas of the business. Overall, there is a good structure to the course, and there is flexibility within the programme.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
I have received full support from my employer. Any concerns or issues are acknowledged by the apprentice managers, who try to resolve the issue as best as possible.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
It depends on the rotation you are placed in at times, as you can’t always apply the theory you have learned at university to the actual work you are doing in the current rotation. Nevertheless, I do believe the university degree is very relevant to sales and developing the necessary skills.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
Yes, there are a decent number of opportunities to network and attend events, such as networking events with other companies like LinkedIn and Amazon. As for social activities and sports teams, there are a fair amount of opportunities.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Cisco to a friend?
Yes
Why?
If you enjoy learning about technology, then you will definitely enjoy this apprenticeship. You get to take some ownership and could have the opportunity to work with some well-known companies and interesting projects. Also, you receive a good salary and benefits for your age.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Cisco?
My advice for people applying to Cisco is to try your best to show your passion and interest in technology (networking, cybersecurity, etc.). For me, I didn't have a technical background as I studied History, Business, and Geography at A-level, but I tried my best to show the people interviewing me my passion and dedication that I could bring to Cisco's apprenticeship. Second to that, try your best to gather some experience relating to soft skills, such as teamwork, organization, and leadership, whether that be playing sports or working on a group project. Also reach out to apprentices on Linkedin.
