Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
I am completing the Level 5 Operations/Departmental Manager Apprenticeship with a specialist Women in Leadership pathway. The programme develops my skills in leading teams, managing operations, driving performance and delivering business improvements. It combines structured learning, leadership development and practical application within my role as Stock Manager.
The Women in Leadership element strengthens confidence, communication, resilience and leadership presence, supporting me to grow as an effective female leader in an operational environment.
I apply leadership learning directly in my role by leading the team, managing daily operations, planning tasks and projects, analysing performance data, solving problems and coaching team members. I also complete apprenticeship activities such as workshops, assignments, reflections and meetings with my coach to develop my operational and leadership skills.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I’m really enjoying the programme overall – it’s been very valuable and has helped me grow as a leader. The content is engaging, and I can clearly see how it supports my development. The main challenge has been balancing the workload and time needed for the activities alongside a very busy operational environment. Although it has been demanding at times, the learning has been worthwhile and beneficial.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
Yes, the programme has helped me build a wide range of new skills while also strengthening those I already had. I’ve developed stronger leadership skills, particularly in communication, coaching and supporting team performance. I’ve also learnt new techniques in project planning and improvement work, including using structured tools to plan, prioritise and track tasks more effectively.
The apprenticeship has also improved my confidence in analysing data and making decisions based on trends and performance insights. On top of this, I’ve grown my ability to organise my workload, manage time and stay focused under pressure in a busy operational environment. Overall, the programme has helped me become more structured, confident and effective as a leader.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
The programme is generally well organised and clearly structured. The modules follow a logical progression and the expectations for each stage are clear. The support from my coach and the planned workshops help keep everything on track.
The main challenge is that some activities require significant time to complete, which can be difficult to manage alongside a busy operational workload. However, overall the structure works well and the guidance provided helps me stay focused and make steady progress.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
I receive good support from my employer. My manager is understanding of the apprenticeship requirements and gives me space when possible to focus on my learning. I’m encouraged to develop my leadership skills and apply what I’m learning in my role.
The main challenge is balancing study time with the demands of a very busy operational environment, but overall the support is there and I feel my development is valued.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
I receive strong support from my training provider. My coach is available when I need guidance and gives clear feedback on my work, which helps me understand what’s expected and how to improve. The workshops and learning materials are well structured and easy to follow and I can ask questions whenever I need extra help.
At times it can still feel challenging to manage the workload alongside a busy job, but the training provider is supportive and responsive and I feel well guided throughout the programme.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
The qualification has helped me perform better in my role in several meaningful ways. The modules on leadership, communication and operational planning have strengthened how I manage my team day‑to‑day and how I approach challenges in a busy environment. I’m using more structured methods for planning, analysing data and making decisions, which has improved my confidence and the quality of my work.
The Women in Leadership elements have also helped me develop greater self‑awareness and leadership presence, which I’m applying directly when supporting my team and working with stakeholders. Overall, the programme has made me more effective, more organised and more confident in my role.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
While there aren’t many formal social or sports activities, I have had opportunities to get involved beyond my usual responsibilities. For example, I have supported the operation by stepping in and covering for the Warehouse Manager when required. This has helped me build leadership experience, broaden my understanding of the wider operation and contribute more widely to the team’s success. There are also occasional team events and cross‑department interactions that support networking and collaboration.
