Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
Over the past three years of my Degree Apprenticeship, my role has combined on‑the‑job learning with structured academic study. Because the learning is delivered remotely, I’ve been able to effectively balance my development with the expectations of my current position, ensuring that my studies enhance rather than interrupt my day‑to‑day work.
The programme is structured around workplace‑relevant modules—including finance, marketing, and operational strategy—which have each contributed directly to my growth as a colleague and a manager. Applying these modules in real time within my role has helped me deepen my understanding of key business functions, improve decision‑making, and strengthen my operational capability. This blend of academic theory and practical experience has been central to my development and has allowed me to proactively contribute to continuous improvement within the organisation.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I really enjoy the programme. It challenges me in my learning and encourages me to think about new ideas, perspectives, and strategic approaches. The structure gives me both stretch and support—pushing me to develop while also providing the guidance I need to progress my own self‑development. Overall, it has been a highly rewarding experience that continues to positively influence my personal and professional growth.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
The course has played a major role in supporting my transition from Store Manager to leading large‑scale projects. I’ve developed a wide range of new skills, particularly around communication techniques and behavioural strategies, which have strengthened the way I collaborate, influence, and engage with others.
It has also enhanced my capability as a project manager—improving my ability to plan, organise, and deliver complex workstreams. Importantly, the programme has given me the confidence to lead and chair meetings effectively, ensuring discussions are productive and that teams remain aligned on objectives. Overall, the learning has significantly supported my professional growth and expanded my leadership skillset.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
The Degree Apprenticeship has been very well structured. Deadlines and course requirements are clearly set out, which makes it easy to plan my workload in advance. Regular catch‑ups with my coach have ensured I feel supported whenever needed, and the ability to rewatch classes has been incredibly valuable—allowing me to fit my learning around the demands of a busy role. Overall, the organisation and flexibility of the programme have made it manageable and highly effective alongside my day‑to‑day responsibilities.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
I receive a significant amount of support from my employer. I have regular check‑ins with my line manager, and I’m able to reach out to colleagues across different functions for guidance on modules such as marketing, project management, and consumer insights.
I’m also empowered to manage my own diary, which gives me the flexibility to allocate the time I need to complete my coursework alongside my role. Overall, the level of support—both formal and informal—has been instrumental in helping me succeed on the programme.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
Arden and my coach have been superb throughout the programme. I have a structured check‑in with my coach at least every four weeks, and I can always reach out via email for advice or support whenever needed. The tutors are very helpful, and I find the classes both engaging and insightful.
As I approach my end‑point assessment, I feel well supported and confident in my ability to achieve the result I’m aiming for. The combination of regular guidance, accessible resources, and high‑quality teaching has made a significant difference to my overall learning experience.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
My Degree Apprenticeship has been fundamental in supporting my progression from Store Manager to Project and Delivery Manager. By gaining a deeper understanding of my own development needs and strengths, I’ve been able to look at my career growth through a completely different lens.
The course has also broadened my perspective of the organisation as a whole. I now have a much clearer understanding of how each department contributes to our shared goals, which has strengthened my ability to collaborate effectively across functions. This wider strategic awareness has directly enhanced my performance in my current role and improved the way I approach project delivery and leadership.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
Yes, there are a wide range of extra‑curricular activities available. The Co‑op is well known for its strong community focus, and throughout my time here I’ve been able to get involved in some incredible opportunities. I’ve taken part in charity hikes with colleagues to extraordinary locations such as the Sahara Desert and Everest Base Camp, as well as supporting local initiatives like fundraising for neonatal units in nearby hospitals.
There are also opportunities to get involved in wider Co‑op events, including working in our festival stores at major events like Glastonbury and Download. These activities have helped me build relationships across the business, contribute to meaningful causes, and feel even more connected to the organisation’s values.

My advice to anyone applying to The Co‑op is to be authentic and show what matters to you. The Co‑op values people who care about their communities, act with integrity, and are motivated by purpose as much as performance. Demonstrating how your personal values align with the organisation’s ethics and community focus will really strengthen your application.
