My role involves testing software to make sure it functions correctly, identifying any issues, and helping ensure the systems we use run smoothly. On a day‑to‑day basis, this includes running tests, checking for bugs, recording results, and supporting improvements to our digital tools
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I really enjoy my programme, especially because it gives me the opportunity to learn through hands‑on experience. Being able to apply what I’m learning directly to real software testing tasks makes the whole process engaging and rewarding. I like the mix of problem‑solving, developing new technical skills, and seeing my progress over time. Overall, the programme has been a great experience and has helped me grow both professionally and personally.

I would recommend the Department for Education to a friend. I’ve had a really positive experience working here the environment is supportive, the learning opportunities are strong, and there’s a real focus on personal development. The teams I’ve worked with have been welcoming and collaborative, and there’s a genuine commitment to helping staff grow and succeed. Overall, it’s a great place to build skills, gain experience, and develop a meaningful career.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Department for Education?
My main advice for anyone applying to the Department for Education is to really highlight your passion for learning and public service. The DfE values people who want to make a difference, so showing genuine motivation can really help your application stand out.
I’d also recommend taking the time to understand the role you’re applying for and linking your skills and experience to the job description as clearly as possible. Be specific about what you’ve done, what you’ve achieved, and how it relates to the role.
