Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
3/5
Dayshift- On call for faults with signalling equipment, jobs throughout the day that don’t involve going onto the track. Nightshift- complete maintenance or fix faults from dayshift.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
I have learned a lot about the railway and signalling as this was a fully new topic to me before I started working for network rail.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
The apprenticeship program could be organised better as there has been quite a lot of delays in appointing assessors for course work for the program, the college part of the programme for the first year could also have been ran better.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
3/5
Overall it is okay, however at times more things could be explained to you as it is a very new environment and a lot of things are quite complex. At times managers replies could be quicker.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
There are good resources for the course work we need to carry out and a lot of experienced people that can help out with completing it.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
The training done through NWR is very relevant for the job and helps massively, however it does have things that could improve.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
1/5
No extra-curricular activities have been shared with myself.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Network Rail to a friend?
Yes
Why?
Overall NWR is a good company to work for with a good structure, and the job provides you a lot of job security and the pay is also good. The apprenticeship program is good with a good opportunity to get a good job that pays well and gives you lot of opportunities to move up.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Network Rail?
Ensure that when you are applying you know exactly what you are getting into as the job has a lot of nightshifts.
