Overview of the Role

Overall, how would you describe your experience at Network Rail?
Company itself is very good - treats employees well. Graduate scheme is not the most well run scheme out there but is improving.
What are the main responsibilities of the role and which elements of the role do you enjoy the most?
This differs for every person as you choose your own placements. I did frontline operational work, project management, and mentoring roles.
To what extent does your role give you the opportunity to contribute meaningfully and feel valued by your team?
4/5
Placement dependent.
How does your compensation package - including perks & benefits - fairly remunerate you for the work you do?
5/5
Good wage, great pension, good general employee benefits, starting bonus
How well do you feel the role is preparing you for your future career?
4/5
Good amount but depends on what you want to go in to; some graduates may push towards roles they are not suited for. Generally you get a good understanding of the railway.
How would you rate the extent to which you were developing new or existing skills through formal training and your day-to-day role?
3/5
Training is okay, depends on the topic and course - some are very good some are a bit pointless. Day-to-day is again placement based.

Experience & Company Culture

How is the support you receive?
4/5
It's good, people are very kind and helpful. This is a little line manager dependent but there are work arounds if they are poor - IE buddys, other managers etc.
How is your work-life balance?
5/5
work from home 2 days a week, choose my own placements.
What is the organisational culture, values and general atmosphere like?
4/5
not very corporate in frontline operational roles which i enjoy.
How would you rate Network Rail initiatives when it comes to equality, diversity, inclusion and accessibility?
4/5
pretty strong on this
How would you rate Network Rail CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) initiatives?
3/5
it's decent, nothing special

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Network Rail to a friend?
Yes
Why?
wage, pension, company treat you well.
How well did the role match your expectations based on the recruitment process?
3/5
it's quite hard to explain what railway operations entails to someone not in the sector.
When considering the recruitment & onboarding process, have you any specific tips or advice you would give to others applying to Network Rail?
do some research about the company and industry
