SRTA spring intern Review

The Spring into Deloitte Programme in Manchester gave me a valuable insight into Strategy, Risk, and Technology by combining interactive sessions, panel discussions, and a team challenge. Each day involved engaging talks from professionals on topics such as the client sales cycle, M&A frameworks, forensic accounting, and technology-driven transformation, alongside inspiring panels on Diversity & Inclusion and career progression. A highlight was the Net-Zero Challenge, where my team developed a sustainability-focused proposal for a hypothetical client, applying the strategic and tech-driven methods we had learned. The programme not only deepened my understanding of how Deloitte supports clients through advisory and innovation but also offered opportunities to network, collaborate, and reflect on personal growth, leaving me with a stronger interest in pursuing a career in strategy and advisory.

It was very good in helping candidates understand the opportunities available at Deloitte, what a day in the life looks like the roles available within each sector and how we as prospective applicants can fit into these roles.

I developed both new and existing skills during the Spring into Deloitte Programme. My problem‑solving and analytical skills were strengthened through frameworks like MECE and the M&A lifecycle, while the Net‑Zero Challenge enhanced my teamwork, communication, and adaptability under time pressure. I also gained new exposure to predictive analytics and AI in cybersecurity, broadening my technical awareness of how data can be used to anticipate risks. In addition, sessions on the client sales cycle improved my commercial awareness, teaching me how to tailor solutions to evolving client needs. Overall, the programme helped me grow in both interpersonal and technical skills, giving me a stronger foundation for a career in strategy and advisory.

The company culture was very warm and inviting, and they were happy to answer any questions the participants had. They discussed their roles, and all seemed to get along. The company culture and atmosphere during the programme were also collaborative and supportive, with professionals at all levels eager to share their experiences and insights. Diversity and inclusion were strongly emphasised, creating an environment where different perspectives were valued, and innovation was encouraged. Overall, the atmosphere was professional yet approachable, making it easy to engage, network, and feel part of Deloitte’s wider community.

My advice would include thoroughly researching the company prior to applying, and being genuine with your answers, as it is a test of your personality as well as achievement in seeing how you as an individual, fit into the establishment. Furthermore, applying for sectors in which you have a particular interest, rather than picking the company just for prestige, there are many sectors within which you could have a place.
