Overview of Role
Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
I joined a team within the Insurance Audit sector of EY, where we were working with one client. I would be given all the tedious work as this was the work I wouldn't have needed much previous experience with. This included a lot of Excel work, making it easier for the rest of the team to understand and find the information needed, as well as making meeting minutes to ensure we remeber what was discussed and decided in all our meetings.
Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
All the work I was given was double checked by other people in the team as they understood we couldn't be given too much responsibility yet. However, we made sure to keep ourselves accountable by ensuring we do the work to our fullest on time.

Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
I have massively developed my skills with Excel, something which I had always struggled with. Also, this was the first time I had to make meeting minutes, which at first was quite stressful as the meetings moved on very quickly, so had to write as quick as possible.

Support and Guidance
How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
I received a lot of support and guidance from many people, whether it be those in my team, the people organising the summer interns, or the specific people assigned to us to help with specific problems, whether they be personal or work related issues. They also helped me create a successful review at the end which helped me achieve a full time job with EY.

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
I loved the culture within EY as if felt very friendly as I could ask anyone for help and they would be more than happy to help. The atmosphere in the office was also very positive, with many social events taking place to ensure everyone was happy.

To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
I really enjoyed my time at EY and felt it was very beneficial. I wouldn't choose any other company to do an internship as I believe EY is the most welcoming and beginner friendly place you can start and grow your career in.

What advice would you give to others applying to EY
Be yourself, and always try give your opinions as it doesn't matter if your right or wrong. Also, be inquisitive as you aren't expected to know anything, so don't be afraid to ask questions.
