Overview of Role
Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
During my time I assisted in researching reporting requirements in multiple jurisdictions for an investment bank. I also helped create a user guide for a tool developed for an insurance market.
Role also consists of frequent meetings with the development team, clients and internally to stay on top of projects.
Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
Much if the work in the team is project work. Therefore it can sometimes be difficult to find work for someone joining mid-way and only for a short period of time.
I did receive a lot of real and varied work and responsibilities, but this came from being pro-active and asking for it. If you are engaged and interested, you will get involved in many things. Though, expect some down time.

Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
It also improved my presentation skills, improving my body language, tonality, and the quality of my slide decks. TTT presentations are particularly slick.
Expect to learn a great deal about the world of work, and how to manoeuvre in it. Which is important as many of us start our career with funny ideas about what working in professional services entails

Support and Guidance
How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
My buddy and councillor were absolutely great. They were always attentive and ready to give me a lot of their time. They set a great standard and were willing to give me constructive feedback.
The rest of the team were also great, and were willing to give time and support regardless of seniority. During my time I had catch-ups with 4 out of 6 of the partners in the team

Company Culture
What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
The desire to create an inclusive culture is supported by everyone, including senior leadership.
EY is more hierarchically flat than other big 4 companies, it is easier to interact and engage openly with very senior people.
If people can trust you to get the work done, people are incredibly relaxed and the lifestyle flexible.

To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?

I also felt like I learnt a great deal from the experience, which made the whole thing very fulfilling. I recommend everyone to apply for EY, and make full use of the opportunity

Recommendations & Advice
Would you recommend EY to a friend?
What advice would you give to others applying to EY
Sometimes in interviews what is important is how you say something rather than what you say. Many applicants have similar, safe, answers to interview questions, what will make you stand out is your enthusiasm and genuine interest for the role.
