Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
Contributed to the development and debugging of full-stack features for SCADA systems using Java and JavaScript, enhancing real-time monitoring interfaces and backend API performance. Collaborated within an Agile Scrum team, participating in sprint planning, daily stand-ups, and cross-functional communication to ensure smooth project delivery.
Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
Yes I was given a lot of responsibility which was amazing as it plummeted my understanding within software engineering and the tangible impact software can have on everyday life.

Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
Yes I learnt how to use a popular Linux distribution Ubuntu, gained deeper understanding on how to write efficiently in Java and Utilized Docker to test applications in isolated environments. I also learnt how to use Git for version control and collaboration on software projects.

How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
I received extensive support and guidance, particularly from the senior developers. Rather than being thrown in at the deep end, we were gradually introduced to the system, allowing us to gain a solid understanding before working independently. Even then, the senior team remained approachable and always willing to provide assistance whenever needed.
