Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
· producing modelling and dashboards using both Python and R.
· Worked both on my own and collaboratively, using GitLab to manage workflows.
· The role also included assisting in data collection through streamlining survey forms; quality assurance; preparing data for publication; and drafting lines for seniors and ministers based on the most recent figures.

Plenty of support and guidance, ensuring I had enough work while able to keep on top of it, with flexibility granted when needed. however being managed remotely from London had its challenges.

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
Supportive atmosphere, with learning and development strongly encouraged. Wellbeing talks put in the diary, and we ran a weekly anonymous wellbeing survey at each team meeting

Enjoyed my placement a lot due to the learning possibilities, insight into working in the Civil Service, and the challenging but supportive work environment.

What advice would you give to others applying to Department for Energy Security and Net Zero
If you are okay with remote working, meeting the team you work with about once a month, then you can get a lot out of this placement. Say yes to any opportunities you can - don't let impostor's syndrome stop you from taking on responsibilities or (attending training/networking events for that matter) - people are genuinely happy to support you when you need it. A mathematics background isn't even nessecary for a statistics placement like this one - you can simply highlight your experience with data in your studies and your determination to learn on the job.
