Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
My role was in the Flight Services department. Once a flight was booked with a broker it was handed over to someone in Flight Services. Our role was to liase with both the airline and client to organise everything for the trip. We would organise parking permits and slots for the aircraft, catering, boarding cards, passport information, private terminals, VIP procedures like fast track and a separate security line. Our job was to ensure that everything was in order and nothing would go wrong on the day of the flight to ensure the client had a smooth process and give them the best customer service. We were also lucky enough to fly with some clients as we off to the clients an ACS Representative to be present on the day of the flight and flight ride so if the client has any questions or something occurs it would be on us to fix it so they don't have to do anything.
Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
For the first few months I was working on clients alongside another member of staff in the Flight Services department, learning the process, questions to ask, and how to organise. After 2 months, I was given my own clients, who I built a relationship with and continued to work on them with their flights for the rest of the duration of my placement. This was a lot of responsibility because if anything went wrong, or wasn't done it would be on my shoulders.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
Since doing my placement I have gained so many skills and my customer service skills have elevated so much. I was able to work with airlines and company's all across the globe and had to learn how to communicate with everyone because each person is different. My excel skills and email skills improved and I have become so much more professional in the way I would communicate with future employers

Support and Guidance

How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
From the University, I received so much support, I had down days were I was struggling with my placement and my placement supervisor at uni was always there for me and gave me great advice. I didn't receive as much support as I really needed from the people on my placement, it was very tough love, which isn't what I needed.

Company Culture

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
In my office, it was very small, there was max 5 people in the office in the day, the days became very repetitive and it was very dull and boring as no one spoke, we would always be sat in silence. However, when I was able to visit the headquaters, the atmosphere was so much better, I had lunch with different people everyday, it was more friendly and exciting.

Overall Experience

To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
I personally really struggled in my placement, it was very tough and I don't think I fully knew what I was getting myself in for. It was a lot of work and responsibilities for just being a placement student.

What advice would you give to others applying to Air Charter Service
If I were to give people advice before joining ACS, I would say it is a lot of work, I commend the people who work there because they are always working, they are doing 12 hour days, being contactable 24/7, would always be working on their days off and annual leave. Going into it, I didnt realise how full on it would be and it was a big jump, I would ensure that someone joining was fully aware of this and knew their social life and free time deteriorates, but the job is very awarding if you are good at it.
