Overview of Role
Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
I served as a finance assistant and mainly worked in the accounts payables and receivables department. This consisted of creating and sending customer/supplier invoices, assisting the treasury manager with weekly payments and uploading payment files unto the bank, completing bank reconciliation for multiple entities every month, reconciling supplier statements etc.
Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
Initially, I wasn't given much responsibility as I was getting eased into the role and routine then tasks started to pick up and was expected to complete more work on a daily basis.

Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
Discipline, time management and communication are the main skills I would say I have developed massively. With this placement being my first full time job, working Monday - Friday 8.30-5 really disciplined me and allowed me to develop a routine. Having a full time job led to me having limited time so I became very time efficient, looking at what to prioritize each day. Communication is key in the office and you are forced to talk to people everyday which is a bit different to university but I am grateful for the development I have made

I received a lot. Training guides, meetings and notes were all provided for me and was always in line with what I had to do.

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
The culture and atmosphere was really friendly, you could talk to anyone. We all offered help to one another and worked as a team to ensure work was being completed to the best standards.

Overall Experience
To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
I must say I prefer the real life work over university work. Once I got used to the 9-5 routine, doing it everyday, I really started to like it more and more.

What advice would you give to others applying to Sudlows
Always be open to work on new things and perhaps shadow some of the senior colleagues to get an insight on what they do, always ask for help if needed and make the most of it as you are their to learn as much as possible.
