Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
I went out with maintenance teams carrying out track maintenance activities such as re-rails, geometry, boxing in, inspections and patrolling, and more. I went out with senior members of staff to learn the job roles before doing it myself.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
3/5
Enjoy the job but dont really like having to go everywhere for it. Sometimes have a 50 minute drive between site and depot which I really cannot be bothered for.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
Learnt a lot of railway skills, communication (eg: phonetic alphabet), and generally working with other departments.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
Organised well to an extent but would like to know the structure when I join so I actually know if I (and my management team) are on schedule or not. Often I felt like I wasn't finding out stuff in time or a bit last minute.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
Was given everything I needed without hesitation.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
Everything I needed however not much they can really give me other than training.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
Have all the tickets I need to succeed in future as well as background knowledge.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
1/5
No.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Network Rail to a friend?
Yes
Why?
Its an easy life and generally I get everything I need through my apprenticeship. I would only recommend an apprenticeship and not any other type of job direct through Network Rail.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Network Rail?
When you are given work crack on and complete it immediately and dont wait. Make a start on it ASAP and send it off. Always stay organised and keep your calender in good order.
