Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
As an intern I worked on roughly 3 different engagements over the 5 weeks. Working as part of different audit teams on these engagements one of my most common jobs was documenting samples that would come in from the client.
Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
Due to the need for industry knowledge, as an intern the roles and tasks that I could complete are limited. That said I was given simple documentation tasks that you could see form a basic part of the audit task. Additionally there were opportunities to go to client site and get exposure to interactions with clients.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
The frequent use of excel has helped develop that skill as it is not something that I regularly use as part of my university degree. I have also developed my communication both spoken and written through interacting with managers on my team and crafting an email to client.

Support and Guidance

How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
Everyone, even those not on my team and just in the office, were open to answering my many questions. From the first day we were assigned a buddy who guided us through setting up laptops etc. and who was there to ask general questions. Within engagement teams you would normally have one person assigning you work and they were always happy to help when you got stuck.

Company Culture

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
The culture was very welcoming. We were included in wider office socials such as away days and the office summer party, even though we were only there for 5 weeks. As part of the internship we were also encouraged to take part in a fundraising activity for the EY foundation.

Overall Experience

To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
It has been an enjoyable placement. The teams that I have been on were very accommodating with my lack of knowledge and needing to be lead through some of the tasks. It met my expectations as an internship and if offered a graduate job I would likely accept and return to Manchester.
