Overview of the Role

Overall, how would you describe your experience at Network Rail?
Amazing. I have learnt so much within the first year, my confidence in role has grown drastically. My networking skills have skyrocketed, travelled all around the UK on many different visits and experiences. This has overall improved my job satisfaction and personal development.
What are the main responsibilities of the role and which elements of the role do you enjoy the most?
Project Management.
Risk, stakeholder, health and safety management.
To what extent does your role give you the opportunity to contribute meaningfully and feel valued by your team?

Great personal development plan. A lot of care and involvement from directors and senior staff to ensure progress and future position at end of scheme.

How is the support you receive?

Very good at providing periodic feedback whilst having developmental opportunities.
Any improvements from the grads have been taken on board and able to be deployed on the next year of grads.
Lots of introductions to the role and expectations.
No faults as such that I believe impacted my support in role.
How is your work-life balance?

Able to speak openly with line manager and had lots of freedom to manage my working hours to support current situations. Able to fulfil my contractual hours and complete my required work. Typical working week is 9-4 Mon to Fri but the rare personal occasion has disrupted this and the team has fully supported me.
What is the organisational culture, values and general atmosphere like?

Lots of visibility by directors and senior/exec level management.
company organised a welcome week with all the current year grads joining the business.
This week was excellent and gave me everything I needed to start.
How would you rate Network Rail initiatives when it comes to equality, diversity, inclusion and accessibility?

The welcome week had lots of different groups and campaigners for different accessible groups, heard from lots of different backgrounds - e.g. autism awareness and how it can affect teams and military veterans in Network Rail.
How would you rate Network Rail CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) initiatives?
5/5
Network Rail grant 5 days a year for volunteering for great causes or anything you would like. This day is fully paid by Network Rail and is not used from annual leave bank.

I have grown and learnt so much and completely changed my view on Project Management.
How well did the role match your expectations based on the recruitment process?

There was a long recruitment process and was a lot of stages. This was to ensure there was a diverse range of grads joining and were capable of doing the role.
When considering the recruitment & onboarding process, have you any specific tips or advice you would give to others applying to Network Rail?
Prepare asap, focus on what you want to show them and keep them close. Learn some facts about Network Rail and their current projects etc. This goes far.
