Audit Industrial Placement Review

The day to day work I carried out was much the same as an audit graduate. Typically I was in the office 3-5 days a week, however this is very flexible. The role revolves around working alongside seniors/assistant managers/managers to complete different aspects of an engagement, and the work assigned varies from audit to audit

The responsibility I was given was much the same as a graduate. Any work assigned was my responsibility to complete and follow up any questions with the audited entity and then also my responsibility to answer any review points raised on my work.

Yes, during the year my technical knowledge of both accounting and audit have increased enormously. Beyond this, my Excel and PowerPoint skills have improved dramatically as well as skills using other audit specific software.
Another aspect I have improved is my teamworking and communication and being able to adapt with working with different people and with Senior individuals at BDO

During my placement I received lots of support all the time. All audit team members are ready and willing to help with any questions I may have.
Also, within BDO, there is a Counselling support system with everyone being assigned a people manager. This provided a lot of support with the more admin tasks I faced, as these were not something I had encountered before.

The company culture at BDO is diverse, inclusive and very welcoming. Everyone who I worked with was always willing to help and were always happy to chat about how I was finding things and whether they could help in anyway. I really noticed that this was the case across all levels of seniority within the firm.
Additionally, BDO has a large social scene including audit team celebrations, smaller social events and then full sector social events, which I thoroughly enjoyed at all points.

I really enjoyed my placement year with BDO, and would thoroughly recommend that anyone apply to BDO, across any of streams.
