Overview of Role
Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
Worked on the adding features to the UBS Risk Platform. Involves data processing pipeline development based on requirements given by stakeholders.
Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
Was embedded within the team, much the way a new grad/joiner would be, so was given the same level of responsibility they would be. Was not isolated with a specific project but instead got to work within the team. Very similar to a what you would expect from a grad program

Developed computer science technicals, and also soft skills: evaluating solutions based on perceptions of what clients want, and also communicating to bring that perception closer to reality.

Was mentored very well, always able to talk and ask questions. Constant stream of communication to make sure we are always on the same page.

Company Culture
What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
Very warm and welcoming. Everyone was very kind and helpful. The social events organised were enjoyable and helped me connect with other interns. From this internship I have developed some strong friendships, for which I am thankful.

Overall Experience
To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
I got to work on a section of computer science that I am very interested in - formal language processing, so I enjoyed the technical side a lot. The company culture also made it very enjoyable to interact with others in general. Altogether, both the human and the technical side brought me joy. The creativity I got to exercise and the outcome of this made me happy.

What advice would you give to others applying to UBS
Tech is very wide ranging, and you would be surprised which skills can benefit you. Don't hide away skills/interests you have that seem unrelated to finance. Even if they are irrelevant, they can signal that you are curious, capable and able to create something meaningful, which is ultimately what UBS (and many other companies) care about.
