Overview of Experience

Please give an overview of the insight and what was involved on a day-to-day basis.
The UBS Spring Insight week consisted of a 9 am registration with 2 of the members of UBS who were our go to people if we had any inquiries during the week. They would then give an overview for the day ahead then follow up with introducing the first guest speaker. We were given an opportunity to ask questions throughout and were encouraged to connect with the guest either via LinkedIn or the UBS email.
What was it like understanding all about the business and potential roles available?
It was definitely eye opening, we were given the opportunity to talk to people in different areas of the bank that I previously was unaware of, so that was very interesting. It was a little overwhelming to move from one speaker directly to the next, but I realise this is such that the week could be as full as possible, it would've been more beneficial if it was in person rather than done virtually.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
I have definitely developed a more inquisitive nature, through having to think of good questions in advanced or on the spot for a guest speaker who gave a quick overview of their journey before/to get to UBS. The week also has encouraged me to be more open when listening to the different areas of the bank I never knew had placements and so I wouldn't have previously considered them when trying to apply.

3/5
What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
Having completed work experience at UBS before I can say I did have some preconceived conceptions about what working in a bank would be like and what the people there would be like. But to my amazement UBS staff were all super friendly and more than happy to answer any questions I had for them. Again it's hard to give a fair overview this time since it was done virtually instead of in person.

Overall Experience

To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
The UBS Spring week was very insightful and valuable. I expanded my network and made so many new connections and even made some new friends with my peers. One evening we had musical bingo which was so fun but could've been better if a wider range of songs were played the ones used were a little out dated for us! Overall it was a great week and I would recommend it for someone who is keen to go into banking

Would you recommend UBS to a friend?
Yes
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to UBS
Definitely do some research about the firm before applying look at their cultures and really think about why you would like to apply to UBS and what you could bring to UBS. Also know which area you would like to apply for because you can only apply to one area. UBS are very welcoming and understanding so if there's something you're not sure about simply just say that don't pretend you do.
