Technology Risk Summer Intern Review

A brief description of your role is - Help organisations identify and manage the risks within their IT environments whilst simultaneously gaining skills to develop a career in professional services. However, there is so much more to it in terms of your day-to-day role. EY are very supportive about your personal development and growth, and so you will have a leadership training session each week. You can also expect to be working with clients and doing work to help the team out. Additionally, you may be given some presentations to do which will allow you to connect with more interns and people across the whole business across UK! On top of all this, there is also plenty of social activities so you can get to know your team better as well as your office.

Yes, you are assigned to work with various teams on various client projects. So I was allocated one 'engagement' (which is a project) and that was with one of the biggest clients. Some of the tasks I did was to update and check that our master system was what all the stakeholders of the client had. I was also give the role to make some presentations which were used to present to the client. I was also involved with regular calls with the client, which was great to see in more depth what the team does.

As a huge part of this internship is the leadership training, there were lots of skills developed there. The leadership programme that we were following was combined with CMI, and it looked at what makes a good leader, how to properly equip high performing teams, how to deal with hybrid teams and coaching culture. The learning doesn't stop there! EY also encourage you to upskill and develop your knowledge on various technical, personal development and business skills. In my short time here, I've managed to do a few learning badges which have been really insightful!

You are assigned a buddy (someone who you ask any questions about anything, and a great person to go to if you want to reach out about a particular topic but not sure who to go to) and a counsellor (someone who monitors your progress and makes sure you are getting the most out of the opportunity). You will also get the support of the team in your office, which would vary in size, but they are all really nice and friendly. Often you might go out for team lunches or dinners etc. You will also have your engagement leader, your main point of contact for the engagement that you are on, and they will be able to guide you and ensure you are getting the most out of the engagement and what the work life is like in the team

I was very suprised at how welcoming and supportive it all is! From day one in the office, you have so many people that you can reach out to if you have any questions or need any help with anything. If you are feeling a bit shy, you can also just ping / email anyone and they will get back to you very quickly!
We were also invited to the ]summer party, which was a big party for the whole office to get together and catch up which was quite nice! We have also gone out for the lunch with the whole team, and whenever we are in the office, we do all go to lunch together.
Another big part of the SIP is the CSR and volunteering, so along with all the other interns from around the whole of the UK, you go to a farm and support the Trees for Cities charity. Also, throughout each office will have the task to raise as much money as possible for the EY Foundation, and there are various ways that the different offices raised money this year!

I thoroughly enjoyed it! Combining together all the work, the team culture, the social opportunities, all the support, there is so much that is offered and I have really enjoyed it all! It is all very welcoming and supportive, and there is such a huge emphasis on growth! The internship exceeded my expectations, and has certainly guided me with what sort of company I like. If I get a return offer, I would love to come back!
