Overview of Role
Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
Working as part of the Tech Risk audit team, the role involves gathering evidence from clients to test and document their tech systems. It requires a lot of attention to detail, with a lot of work in Excel documenting test results and flagging up any outliers or follow-up requests to clients.
Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
One of the most exciting factors about the internship was that responsibility was given to you from day one. Your engagement team trusts you to complete work, and allows you the time and freedom to make decisions on how best to present the work. However, your team are always there to support you when you need guidance.

Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
I have learnt new skills in writing formal documentation, which is a skill that can take time to develop. I have learnt a lot about working as part of a team, where each team member has an assigned role or assigned pieces of work. Communication is the skill I have developed most in my time on the Internship.

Support and Guidance
How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
There was a lot of support and guidance from mentors - everyone is assigned a buddy and a counsellor, who welcome you into the business and introduce you to people. This support is important, but there is also a lot of support from the engagement teams, and other people working in the office in general.

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
EY has a very accepting and diverse culture, that accepts new ideas and really listens. The people are what make the organisation as successful as it is, and EY invest in their staff to produce the most talented and qualified individuals they can.

Overall Experience
To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
I enjoyed my time on the internship thoroughly. The work was interesting, and while maybe not thrilling all the time, the wider team and social aspects made sure it was always interesting and worth coming into the office. The culture is very welcoming, and that helps you to settle in easily. I would like to return to EY in the future.

What advice would you give to others applying to EY
Take the application process seriously, and do your research. Make sure you are in the know about current world events, as this will help you seem switched on. For assessment centres, make sure you put your opinions forward, and be open and honest with your peers, while also allowing others to voice their opinions and encouraging quieter members of the group to get involved.
