Tax Summer Intern Review

On a day to day basis, you would work from 9am-5/5:30pm and your first point of call would be your buddy. Within the internship, every day would be slightly different but each day would involve some work being assigned from someone in your team (usually a manager or graduate). There was a mixture of: shadowing client calls; completing read throughs of work; research and completing certificate learning. This ensured that there would be a wide variety of work and experiences.

Within the internship, there was some responsibility. This was firstly seen in managing our time and capacity to ensure that we could complete the certificate learning along with the work from our teams. There was a responsibility to hand in your certificate learning on time and produce good reflections. There was also responsibility when completing work for managers and graduates to make sure it was to the highest standard.
Due to the nature of work, the responsibility was towards the work completed in compared to deliverables/ interacting with clients.

Within the internship, I completed a certificate learning course on how to be a better leader. The skills I learnt during the certificate training can be transferred to when I could be leading a team in future rolls. I also developed my skills in Excel, project management and communication. These were all developed 'on the job' and provided new opportunities for growth. We also gave a group case study presentation within a group of 3 which developed my team working skills, time management and presentation skills

During the internship we had a buddy (usually a graduate) and a counselor (manager or above). Our buddy would be the first point of call for support on everyday questions. Whereas your counselor would be there to give you guidance on your performance and how you are settling into the team. Everyone within the team would be happy to help.
When working in the team, if you had attended a call everyone was more than happy to answer questions. I found the teams really supportive.

Within the internship at EY there was a great effort to create a welcoming and exciting environment. For the interns there were a wide range of events held from learning lunches, partner breakfasts and after work drinks/ socials.
There was also a positive culture towards inclusion and sustainability (CSR) at EY. There was a wide range of groups to join (such as women in tax or different sports clubs) and everyone had a 'can do' and 'team' attitude about them.

I really enjoyed the internship at EY. While it was initially a little bit nerve racking meeting everyone and getting used to new processes, everyone made you feel welcomed and included within the team. There was lots of areas to grow your knowledge and to understand some of the basic concepts in tax.
I thought the internship was well organized by the student recruitment team and included a variety of different opportunities to learn about EY and the culture.
