SVS Intern Review

I usually met with my team through Teams at the beginning of the day and was given my tasks for the day. I spent time working on audit platforms such as Excel and did work for the audit engagement. My engagement was in the Conclude section of the audit so I was helping with closing out working papers and making sure TBs matched to updated FS from the client. I also would have coffee chats with people from different business areas in the office.

I thought that the induction really let me see all the different types of roles available at Deloitte. Once I started working in my office I found that I was mainly only interacting with other individuals in audit. Although I was mainly interacting with people within audit, I learned about the breadth of clients that Deloitte interacts with and how many different industries there are to explore concerning clients. I think that there was a clear insight into more senior roles within the company as well.

I have learned several new skills that will be invaluable to me in my future career. I think one of the existing skills I really strengthened was my knowledge of excel. There was not a day in the internship where I wasn't on excel so I feel like I learned a lot of shortcuts for equations that helped me complete work in a timely manner. I also learned a lot about the various audit platforms Deloitte uses on a day-to-day basis.

The general atmosphere and company culture were positive and people I interacted with were very welcoming to the new interns. I found that people were very friendly and were willing to help me with questions even if I did not know them personally. I was surprised to see how the number of people within the office fluctuated throughout the week, with the office generally being full on Tuesdays and more empty on Mondays and Fridays.

I thought I generally enjoyed the insight and the work I was doing with my team. I think I would have liked having more structure on a day-to-day basis, such as longer scheduled meetings in my calendar. I thought that there was always something to do, whether it was networking or completing e-learnings within Deloitte's Co-Pilot. I think that this was a very insightful experience into what an auditor does and showed me what my future career could look like.
