Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
During my Summer Internship in the Worldwide Airports department, I supported global station operations and helped roll out a new training platform. My daily tasks involved regular communication with airport managers across various countries, allowing me to build strong professional relationships. I contributed to ongoing projects, gained insight into international airport operations, and developed my communication and organisational skills. This role gave me a valuable understanding of how global teams collaborate in a fast-paced environment.
Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
I wasn’t sure how much responsibility we’d be given over the 10 weeks, but I was pleasantly surprised to be thrown straight into the deep end. Early on, I was trusted to host a regional call independently, engaging with airport managers and leading discussions. I was given full scope to contribute meaningfully, which boosted my confidence and made me feel like a valued part of the team. The trust placed in me was incredibly empowering.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
Throughout my internship, I developed key professional skills, especially in communication and leadership. Although I’ve always enjoyed speaking with people, I had to learn how to confidently initiate meetings, address performance gaps, and raise issues constructively. Working with global airport managers taught me how to navigate different working styles and build trust. These experiences helped me grow in assertiveness, problem-solving, and accountability—skills I’ll carry forward into any future role.
