Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
Day-to-day I assist in both client and internal team projects which involves a combination of research tasks, data analytics, replying to queries, drafting documents and creating presentations. The work is varied and involves engaging with a wide range of clients, each with their own needs and priorities.
Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
I was given an increasing amount of responsibility as my internship progressed and my skills and confidence increased in turn. I contributed to the team work with independent research tasks, document drafting and email replies, both to local offices and to clients.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
I learned communication skills in writing in a professional business tone. I also improved my proficiency in the Microsoft suite, particularly Excel, Teams, Outlook, Word, and PowerPoint. The role also provided opportunity to learn new skills through the EY badges. I completed a Bronze Learning Badge in Artificial Intelligence, but there are also options to learn specific data analytic or coding tools, for example.

Support and Guidance

How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
There is a great system of support in the internship as each intern is allocated a buddy, who helps them understand the day-to-day working in the office, and a counsellor, who assists them in their progress during their internship. The team structure, however, is also very friendly and helpful as lower and upper levels of the team interact on a daily basis to provide guidance and support.

The culture at EY is really good as it is professional but not in any way intimidating. I always felt that I could ask questions if I needed help and questions are greatly encouraged to promote the development of skills and understanding. The people are all really friendly and approachable.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend EY to a friend?
Yes
What advice would you give to others applying to EY
I would advise people applying to EY to research the four service lines carefully to get a better understanding of the work they do, and to pick the one that most appeals to their interests and skills. I have really enjoyed the Tax & Law service line and think that my research before applying paid off.
