Overview of Role
Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
You are assigned to an engagement, getting the chance to work as part of an existing EY team. This was beneficial to broaden our understanding of the job and increase our exposure to different areas of the audit. We are assigned tasks, which are manageable in difficulty, and are able to ask questions to the person that assigned the work at any point which can help to develop your understanding of why you do what you do.
Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
Yes, as time went on the tasks I was given had more responsibility so I was able to feel useful to the team.

Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
Developed my excel skills. Been able to experience working in an office and what that feels like each day, which in turn indirectly improves your soft skills. Also learn to be a bit uncomfortable at the beginning when you are finding your feet and getting used to that feeling of accepting that it is ok to not always know entirely what you are doing.

Support and Guidance
How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
A good level of support. Each intern is assigned a buddy who is a recent graduate and acts as your informal point of contact, as well as a counsellor who helps with your career development. Within each engagement team you are exposed to lots of people who have been very helpful.

Company Culture
What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
Good. A very friendly environment in the office. This was helped by the interns being introduced at a whole-office meeting and being able to take part in family day and sports day for our department.

What advice would you give to others applying to EY
An internship at a company such as EY is great experience, give it a go applying. I didn't anticipate being offered a place but I was and it has been a really insightful experience.
