Actuarial Consultant Review

You will have several learning sessions throughout the internship focused on; Exams, Industry, insurance products, audits, regulation, modelling and assumptions.
The main roles for actuarial interns; analyzing market data, creating PowerPoint summary's for incentives, shadowing meetings and taking minutes.
You can get involved in FoE's (Field of Expertise) in the team. I helped in the Tech FoE and created a centralized repository for code from apps and created a presentation summarizing package management.

I was given a lot of responsibility during the internship but when speaking to other interns (not only actuarial) this definitely differs and I think depends on how much you ask for and how well you deal with the preceding tasks in the internship. I also got a variety of tasks and some of theses were given to me due to my existing skillset so responsibility may depend on which areas you have experience in.

Lots of new skills, I spent lots of time on excel and PowerPoint so have learnt how to use these efficiently and effectively. Also, you get lots of chances to network and meet clients so social skills are tested and refined. Time management is also a key skill that will be tested as in my experience you will get a lot of work all at once so you will need to know what to prioritize.

I had both a buddy and a counselor. I was able to speak to my buddy over a month before I started my 5 week internship and had weekly meetings with them either for questions or just a general catch up. My whole team were extremely helpful as well, anyone I worked with pushed for me to ask as many questions as I liked and never dismissed any that I had, even the silly ones!

EY throughout the whole recruitment process go on about their culture as a company and refers to themselves as a 'family' endlessly you will doubt this but it is absolutely true (I can only speak for my team). Everyone is so lovely and willing to help you. My team also went out of their way to get me to company wide events and also invited me to regular team socials, partner celebrations and lots more!

This internship was extremely insightful and gave me a lot of exposure to the work that actuaries do and showed me the lifestyle and culture included in the job and in the team within EY. I enjoyed the various social events and met so many people from various service lines and roles. The induction was well organized and a nice ease into the office, we had a induction social and a CSR day as well!
