Overview of Role
Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
Involves supporting students through 1 to 1 mentoring sessions, tutoring sessions and running enrichment clubs. In class support sessions also involved attending lessons, helping students with the work and assisting the teacher with small tasks to help the flow of the lessons.
Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
Yes. I was trusted with teaching entire literacy programmes to students below a sufficient level. I was also trusted with goal setting for students struggling in school. I was given creative freedom with these sessions.

I was given plenty support from managers and superiors at City Year. Advice/guidance was willingly provided on time management, personal organisation and the work itself. But also personal growth/help. This includes help with university requires and other commitments.

To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
I've certainly enjoyed my placement and have learned a lot about working full time, and in an educational environment. Although challenging at times (like any other working role) the work has certainly been rewarding and meaningful.

What advice would you give to others applying to City Year UK
Go in with few expectations. During the interview process, link your examples to specific skills that the job spec may be asking. During your role, speak to your line managers and do not stress about initial admin work.
