Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
3/5
My overall role consists of accounts payable. I process invoices from suppliers and subcontractors and ensure payments are set up for both weekly and monthly payment runs. Most of my external interactions come from emails directly from suppliers/subcontractors. Internally, I interact directly with other members of the Finance team as well as various departments such as Purchasing, Compliance and Project Management.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
3/5
The overall programme has been enjoyable as it is an entry level qualification which has allowed me to change career paths from an engineering background into Finance role. The way the programme has been structured has made this change relatively accessible.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
I have developed my skills in accounts payable, particularly in managing invoices and reconciling statements. I now have a good understanding of the Construction Industry scheme due to my experience working within the construction industry which allows me to file our monthly return with HMRC. Additionally, my AAT Level 3 studies have enhanced my understanding of financial processes and accounting software.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
The AAT programme is really well structured and has allowed me to change careers from an engineering background into a Finance role and is designed in a way that focuses on developing the key skills a person would need to work successfully within a Finance team.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
My employer is supportive of my studies and provides me the time I need both on and off the job to allow me to succeed on my programme. They have also been flexible with allowing me time of to revise when extra revision was needed before my exams.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
1/5
My tutor at the college is very helpful and provides me support whenever I need it. Overall, though I would say there is not much support as the course is set up for self study and you are essentially given some resources and are expected to just figure it out. The AAT do provide good resources and a large network of fellow students that are helpful, however, the overall quality of resources provided by the college is minimal.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
The AAT has provided me with skills to go from having no prior experience or knowledge to being able to work independently within a Finance team. I would say it is very helpful in providing all the entry level skills and knowledge that allow me to succeed in my role and will continue to help me in future roles.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
2/5
The company does encourage some social outreach projects that you can get involved in and sets up regular work socials.
