Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
As a nursery assistant, I support the care, development, and learning of young children in a safe, stimulating, and nurturing environment. My role involves working closely with other staff members to ensure each child’s individual needs are met, while following safeguarding procedures and promoting positive relationships.
Day-to-day basis are Welcoming children and parents each day and helping children settle in, Preparing and setting up activities that support learning through play, Observing children’s behaviour and development, and recording observations for key workers or reports, Assisting with feeding, changing, and toileting routines in a respectful and hygienic manner and Encouraging positive behaviour and promoting independence and social skills.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I really enjoy my programme as it gives me the opportunity to learn new things and grow both personally and professionally. It’s helped me gain a deeper understanding of child development, safeguarding, and how to support children’s learning through play.
Although some parts of the programme can be challenging—especially while balancing it with work—I find it rewarding because I can see how much I’ve improved.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
Yes, I have developed a range of skills since working as a nursery assistant. One of the key areas where I’ve grown is in communication—both with young children and with adults. I’ve learned how to communicate effectively with babies and toddlers using gestures, tone, and facial expressions, and I’ve also improved my confidence when speaking with parents and colleagues.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
I find the programme to be well organised and structured. The content is broken down into clear units, which makes it easier to understand and follow. I like that each part builds on what I’ve already learned, and there’s a good balance between theory and practical work.
The support from tutors is helpful, and I know who to contact if I have any questions or need extra guidance. The deadlines and expectations are clearly explained, which helps me stay on track. Sometimes it can be a bit challenging to manage everything, especially with my Functional Skills exams still to complete, but the structure of the course helps me stay focused and organised.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
They are understanding about my training and give me time to complete tasks related to my course when needed. I feel comfortable asking questions or seeking guidance, and they’re always willing to help me improve my practice.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
My tutor is always available to answer questions or explain anything I’m unsure about. They give regular feedback on my work, which helps me understand what I’m doing well and where I can improve. The training materials are easy to follow and understand, and the sessions are helpful and relevant to my job in the nursery.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
I feel that my qualification is helping me perform much better in my role. It gives me a deeper understanding of child development, safeguarding, and the importance of routines, play, and communication in early years settings.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
We get involved in nursery events, like seasonal celebrations, open days, or charity fundraising, which gives us a chance to work more closely with families and the wider community. These experiences are enjoyable and help strengthen team spirit and communication.
We do have occasional social gatherings and team-building activities, especially around holidays or special occasions. These help build good relationships within the team and create a positive working environment.
