Overview of Role
Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

I started my career in hairdressing by helping the salon team to clean, tidy, watch and learn from the stylists at work and eventually began to do blow drys at discounted prices to help me start to deal with clients. I also would take clients payments, book appointments and answer the phone.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I really enjoy coming to work, it has always been my passion to become a hairdresser and make people feel beautiful through hair but also through creating relationships with people. I am always learning new skills and techniques including how to deal with queries and complaints, and I like that my responsibilities increase as I am know creating task sheets to help the new juniors when they start.

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I have developed on my confidence to speak to new clients and I feel a lot more knowledgeable when advising on after care for their hair. I have also learnt the skill of posting and using social media for marketing purposes.
Structure and Support
How well organised/structured is your programme?

I have a scheme of work that everyone follows at college every week so we all know what we are doing. it included a client day every other week so we get to practice on live models too. We are also given the opportunity within the salon each week to practice what we did on the college day.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

I always feel supported and if I am unsure on anything I can write it in the note book and then [This section of the comment has been removed by a member of the Higherin Team because it did not meet our site terms and conditions] (my boss) runs over the topic with me once she has finished with her client to make sure I now understand the topic. I am always wanting to learn and this salon gives me that opportunity.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

My college tutor has a group chat with me and my mum in so if there is ever anything that my tutor doest feel I have understood it is put in the group chat so me and my mum and my tutor are all on the same page and can all work together to support me.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

By qualifying in my level 2 it has enabled me to progress onto my level 3 where I have now started to learn more in depth knowledge on colour and cutting theory. Which allows me to provide a better service to clients and In turn help develop my clientele and be a busier stylist.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

We go to Haircon to see and watch professionals in the industry and we get involved with the street angels charity and help the homeless by offering free cut and blow drys done by a junior under supervision one day a week.

Yes
Why?
I like the structure and routine of the academy and I feel that I was given the opportunity to follow my passion here and I would want my friends to have that same opportunity. I also feel like I trust the staff here and if I was ever in trouble I could speak to a staff member and feel they would help me.

Bring your cv in
Apply to lots of salons for a placement
Be and always look presentable and arrive on time/early to anything work or college related
To always wear the correct uniform (top and lanyard)
Keep on top of the off the jobs on the VLE
Practice on models as much as possible
