Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
I assist with research and the planning of work to rectify flooding related risks and would visit the work being carried out to ensure the contactor understood the issue. I also update our data sources to ensure the team is kept up to date with the current condition of our assets.
Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
Yes I was given issues with council and 3rd party neighbours that I was tasked with having a site visit with and then creating a solution to fix their issue when required. Please note that this part of the role came later when I had developed a level of confidence and understanding and their was no pressure from the team to meet with 3rd party's if you did not feel comfortable.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Network Rail to a friend?
Yes
What advice would you give to others applying to Network Rail
Research the company before the interview stage and understand the companies goals and values. Try and set goals before you start or early into your placement so you can start talking to your team and try and set dates for you to compete each goal, e.g. seeing a new bridge being installed which would be planned months before and there may only be a small number happening each year.
