Overview of Experience

Please give an overview of the insight and what was involved on a day-to-day basis.
I was introduced to UBS and its global structure towards banking. We were able to hear from a variety of placement students, graduates, and research directors about areas such as Global Banking, Global Markets, and Asset Management. We were given the opportunity to ask questions and work in teams on case studies such as on valuation and stock pitching. We were able to get involved with the wider community affairs programme that UBS offers.
What was it like understanding all about the business and potential roles available?
I have a much broader understanding of the different roles available, particularly more specialist roles unique to UBS such as IBCOO. I was able to network with graduates and learn about their career progression opportunities, and learn about roles which spanned across different divisions such as global research.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
I have gained key insight into key banking divisions, what skillsets are required, and what day-to-day work looks like within UBS. I have a much broader image of how different business areas like investment banking and asset management interact, and how teams collaborate on unique solutions for clients. I also gained an understanding of less-well known back office roles like operations, as well as developing my personal networking and teamwork skills in group exercises.

Throughout the UBS Spring Insight Week we were introduced to its unique collaborative culture, within and across divisions. We learnt about its emphasis on sustainable investing and ESG. In a separate diversity, equity, and inclusion session, we were introduced to its action on the gender pay gap, diversity networks, and its values of inclusivity. We were also given a chance to explore its community action programmes and participate in an exercise designing letters for the elderly.
